Halifax’s Ed Walsh captured a Canadian cycling title on the weekend.

The 22-year-old finished first in the under-23 category at the National Road Racing Championships in Saguenay, Que.

“He rode smart and made the right major, decisive race moves putting himself into the front group of 10 elite men and the only under-23 rider left in the leading group after nine laps,” Nova Scotia coach Jon Burgess said in a news release. “With 30 kilometres to go he got dislodged from the lead group with a precarious lead over his second- and third-place under-23 competitors.”
