Age 80, Sable River (United States Navy Ret'd). It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of David D. Dittler Sr. on November 17, 2018 in Roseway Hospital with his family by his side following a lengthy battle with kidney failure. Born in Jersey City, New Jersey, USA on March 31, 1938, he was a son of the late Charles and Louise ( Pounder-Snyder) Dittler. He was a graduate of Vocational Technical High School, specializing in carpentry/ cabinetry. David enlisted in the United States Navy. He was stationed in Shelburne, Barbados, West Indies, Ramey AFB, Puerto Rico (twice), Key West, Fla., Keflavik, Iceland; Argentia, Newfoundland (twice), and Eleuthera, Bahamas. In November 1981, he retired to Sable River, with his family. David enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, sudoku, listening to short wave radio and carpentry. He is survived by sisters, Gretchen Williams and Irene Caldwell of the United States; son, David Jr. (Susan), Sable River; daughter, Bonnie, Topeka, Kan.; grandsons, Joshua Dittler, Sable River; and Robert Martin, Shelburne; granddaughters, Meghan Martin, Halifax; and Kathryn Martin, Shelburne; son-in-law, Kevin Martin; step grandchildren, Melanie and Jared; great-grandson, Knightly Dittler; step great-grandsons, James and Jesse. He was predeceased by his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Martin); brothers, Robert and William; and sister, Edith; daughters, Robyn and Gretchen. Cremation has taken place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson's Funeral Homes & Crematorium Ltd. There will be a gathering of family and friends at a later date in Sable River. Memorial donations may be made to Sable River Volunteer Fire Department or charity of choice. Interment at a later date.
