A Middle Sackville homeowner scared off a possible would-be burglar on Thursday, with the suspect leaping off a deck that was four metres off the ground to escape.

According to a police news release, Halifax District RCMP got a 911 call from the resident to report that someone was on the back deck of their Lylewood Drive home. The homeowner knocked on the window and the trespasser jumped from the deck.

Mounties and the Halifax Regional Police K-9 unit conducted a search but could not find the suspect, who is described as a white male in his late teens, five-foot-six, wearing jeans and a blue jacket. He also had a red backpack.

Officers discovered that a garage on the property had been broken into although nothing was taken.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Halifax District RCMP at 902-490-5020 or Crime Stoppers toll free at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
