Now in its second decade, BOMA’s national environmental certification program BOMA BEST® is providing even more solutions to businesses looking to create and monitor sustainable buildings and workplaces. It now also offers an option for residential buildings, with the introduction of a Multi-Unit Residential Building (MURB) module.
With more than 7,000 buildings obtaining a certification or recertification since its inception in 2005, BOMA BEST® is Canada’s largest environmental assessment and certification program for existing buildings. It is a unique, voluntary program that provides owners and managers with a consistent framework for assessing the environmental performance and management of existing buildings of all sizes and types. BOMA BEST® Sustainable Buildings 3.0 provides a consistent framework for owners, managers and building operators to critically assess ten key areas of environmental performance and management: Energy, Water, Air, Comfort, Health and Wellness, Custodial, Purchasing, Waste, Site and Stakeholder Engagement.
BOMA BEST® initially started out as a program for Office buildings, but modules have since been developed for Enclosed Shopping Centres, Light Industrial, Open Air Retail, Multi-Unit Residential Buildings and Health Care Facilities. In addition a Universal Module is available for buildings that do not meet the criteria for any specific category.
The building infrastructure is only the part of the equation for businesses looking to create a healthier and more sustainable workplace. For those companies or organizations that have a green mandate BOMA is proud to introduce BOMA BEST® Sustainable Workplaces, the perfect tool to lead you and your organization to an environmentally sustainable workplace.
Not only does BOMA BEST® Sustainable Workplaces validate what has already been done, it will provide a road map to improve key performance indicators. The standardized framework requires businesses to benchmark, monitor and set goals in seven areas that they typically have some control over: energy, water, waste, e-waste, construction and renovation, procurement practices, business and employee travel and indoor air quality.
BOMA BEST® Sustainable Workplaces is a tool for all of us … has your organization considered certification?
